TRANSFERRING PHOTOS - PHYSICAL CONNECTION

• Camera docking device - preferred if available

• Treat as USB memory device 

• Physically move camera memory to card reader  - risk card damage

TRANSFERRING PHOTOS -COMPUTER STEPS

• Create a temporary photo folder

• Mycomputer>(look for drive with camera name)

• Click thru camera folder to photos>Edit[select all]

• Drag & drop files to photo folder

• Create edit folder>copy from temp folder

• Delete camera photos - be sure photos are copied!

QUICK LOOK AT IMAGES - EDIT FOLDER

• View>Details  [Add preferred columns - size, dim, camera, etc]

• View>Thumbnails - rotate or delete bad photos

• Right click individual folders for quick view or editing

PHOTO SOFTWARE 

• Windows Picture and Fax Viewer  - quick load, auto-fit, no edit

• Microsoft Photo Editor - quick load, auto-fit, basic edit

• IrfanView - quick load, 2 step auto-fit , advanced edit

• PhotoShop Elements - slow to load, professional edit

• Paint.Net

SET DEFAULT PHOTO SOFTWARE

• Right click image [name.jpg] > Open With > Choose Program

• Click 'Always use the selected program' then pick program

• MS Photo Editor & IrfanView are good defaults [quick load & edit]

KEY EDIT FUNCTIONS

• Adjust brightness - gamma, contrast, individual colors [remove red-eye]

• Resize, crop  

• Rotation - 90 degree & fine

• Effects  Sample Photo

• Photo merge (Panoramic) - advanced editors i.e. PhotoShop
